The Downtown Tuscaloosa YMCA Family Center offers multiple opportunities for memberships via insurance partners. Insurance holders that are eligible for Silver Sneakers or Silver&Fit can join the YMCA for a free membership, including group fitness classes, our Wellness Center, and steam rooms. To check your eligibility, we encourage you to call your insurance provider, check out the information below, or give us a call at (205) 345-9622.
SilverSneakers® is a program designed to provide physical activity and social interaction among active individuals age 65 and up. We partner with Healthways Inc. to provide a research-based group exercise class that is taught by a certified fitness instructor. Moreover, by registering and participating in SilverSneakers®, it entitles you to full YMCA membership privileges! Specific health insurance plans will provide this opportunity for you at no additional cost.
To see if your insurance plan is connected to Silver Sneakers or check your availability, visit their online Eligibility search.
In addition to checking online, we are able to search your eligibility at the Front Desk of the Y! Once we confirm that you are eligible, you will need to simply fill out a membership application and sign a Silver Sneakers waiver. Your free membership will begin immediately and will include access to the Wellness Center, locker rooms, steam rooms, and group fitness classes.

The Silver&Fit program is an exercise and healthy aging program providing unique, evidence-based fitness and health education activities for Medicare beneficiaries and group retirees. Silver&Fit members have access to: no-cost Tuscaloosa YMCA memberships; SilverandFit.com, a website providing health tools and resources specifically designed for older adults; The Silver Slate newsletter; and a toll-free customer service hotline.
The Silver&Fit program is available to people who are Medicare-eligible and have purchased Medicare Advantage or Medicare Supplement coverage that includes the Silver&Fit program as a benefit.
