More than 250 children enroll in sports programs — basketball and baseball — at the Benjamin Barnes YMCA. The gymnasium for basketball and the baseball field with covered bleachers make the Barnes Y a great place for children to learn valuable lessons in a Christian environment. The children’s participation in sports not only provides social and recreational opportunities, it also promotes good character, sportsmanship, and teamwork. The programs work in partnership with local and neighboring leagues throughout Alabama and the region. Contact Program Director Nick Baldelli-Boggs at (205) 345-9622 or for details.

Youth Basketball is held November – February for children ages 6 – 14 and includes a skills clinic, six weeks of games with a double-elimination tournament at the season’s end, and trophy awards for individual participation for all players.

Youth Baseball runs from March – May for children ages 3 – 12. Children ages 3 and 4 will get their first opportunity to learn baseball with T-Ball! Children ages 5 – 8 will play a coach pitch league with 5/6 year-olds playing together and 7/8 year-olds playing in their own league. Children ages 9 – 12 will have the opportunity to learn baseball fundamentals through our baseball clinic. Over a month and half, these children will work on pitching, hitting, fielding, throwing, and increase in understanding of how baseball is played. All baseball activities will end in May.
