Tai Chi is now at the Tuscaloosa YMCA!

Tai Chi is a type of low-impact, weight-bearing, and aerobic – yet relaxing – exercise that began as a martial art. Practiced in a variety of styles, Tai Chi involves slow, gentle movements, deep breathing, and meditation.
This exercise program is easy to follow for seniors and all fitness levels. Enjoy increased confidence and reduced stress; gain strength, flexibility, and balance as you experience Tai Chi.

This class is now available to all members as a group fitness class!

Beginning November 5th, we will offer Tai Chi For Arthritis and Shibashi!

Mondays 10-11 — Tai Chi for Arthritis 1 — an introductory form of Tai Chi in the Sun style and characterized by an  upright stance and gentle movements. The flowing exercises can strengthen muscles, improve flexibility and improve general health. And this form is recommended by Centers for Disease Control for reducing falls.

Thursdays 10-11 — Shibashi — a modern form of Qigong based on Yang style Tai Chi. Movements are fluid and smooth, and like Tai Chi, are coordinated with the breath and mental focus to improve balance and to cultivate internal strength and coordination. Suitable for all levels of experience.

*Members are encouraged to begin this Tai Chi session (beginning November 5th) during the first lesson, as elements from each class will be used in the next.

Passes are available at the front desk 20 minutes prior to each class. Passes are limited so that each member has a sufficient amount of space to perform.

Please let the front desk know if you have any questions!
